Southern Foodways Alliance conference focuses on food and music
11/11/09 Southern food and music was the focus at the recent Southern Foodways Alliance annual symposium that Debbie Moose attended in Oxford, MS. Food historians, oral historians, chefs and musicians explored the links in both entertaining and informative ways. Chefs including David Chang of Momofuku in New York and Susan Spicer of Bayona in New Orleans prepared meals for the group that explored Southern ingredients. "The SFA offers great information and experiences, and I always learn something new. Who knew you could create a ballet based on pork and chitlins?" Debbie said. The Southern Foodways Alliance is an organization for anyone interested in Southern food. Based at Ole Miss, SFA is dedicated to preserving and promoting Southern food and foodways.
